Spotorno-Noli
Once again a hike in the Riviera di Ponente, and myself as your guide in place of Andy π
The hike will be on Saturday (April, 22), since the weather is expected cloudy on Sunday.
This time we will hike along a brand new route for the Group, a trail never threaded before!
We will set off from Spotorno train station and gain altitude up to the ridge of the mountain from which we will enjoy a beautiful view over the island of Bergeggi to the east, and capo Noli to the west. After going past the paraglider take-off point, we will reach the summit of monte Mao, at 440 m. Then, we will start our descent to Bergeggi, eventually getting back to Spotorno. Will the bravest ones have their first swim of the season? π
This hike is rated as medium/easy. You can see the itinerary details here:Β https://it.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=15376103
Edit: we’ll also venture to the sea cave of Punta Predani, the most famous sea cave in Liguria (thanks Andy for the tip!) π
Meeting point is Spotorno-Noli train station, at 11:20.
Here are the trains to get there:
R 24562 Genova Brignole (9:55) Genova Piazza Principe (10:03) arriving at Spotorno-Noli at 11:17
IC 1533 Milano Centrale (8:10) Genova Piazza Principe (9:44) then take the R 24562 to Spotorno-Noli
Return will be from Spotorno-Noli as well, so you might want to buy a return ticked in advance to avoid any hassle buying the ticket there (possibly we will catch the 17:21 train, or maybe the 19:21, for those who want to linger on the beach).
Also, remember to bring food & water with you, there will be no places to get them on the way.
This hike looks great. I will only be in Liguria from 25th to 27th May though and am hoping there will be a similar hike I could join with you then. I am from Cape Town in South Africa and will be on a solo trip to sestri and riva del garda, getting as much walking as I can in. I would love to join hiking groups to do this, so I can meet people and learn new routes. I hope I can join yours and if there are any others you know of, please would you tell me?
Hi Gaia, we will be happy to welcome you to our hiking group!
We organize two hikes a month usually, but extra hikes can be added if the weather is nice (only on weekends though).
Right now it is a bit too early for us to tell whether there will be a hike on May 27. However, if you write us one or two weeks in advance, we can organize an extra hike!
As for other hikes, my favorite is the one from Noli to Varigotti (two medieval really picturesque coastal towns), passing by the Grotta dei Falsari (Cave of Brigands):

Here is a picture of the cave: http://fotostudiolovisolo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/PN-4-2011-GROTTA-DEI-FALSARI-FOTOSTUDIOLOVISOLO.jpg
Another very scenic hike, starting precisely from Sestri Levante, is the following:

And this is an extended version of the latter, arriving up to Moneglia:

Hi lukeliguriah
Thank you so much for your welcome and for your generous offer. I really hope to join the group for at least one hike. I will message you before, in the hope something can be arranged.
Thanks for the links to the other hikes you suggest. They look fabulous and I will definitely try to do them. If anyone in the group is ever in Cape Town, let me know and I can take you on some spectacular hikes.
