S. Margherita, Pietre Strette, Felciara and Base 0

Sunday, March 19th 2016:

S. Margherita Ligure

Given the exceptionally warm weather, shall we resume the Ligurian hikes? The spring festival in S.Margherita Ligure, combined with the 2×1 Intercity train offer, makes Parco di Portofino a quite appealing destination this Sunday. There will be live music entertainment, free food, as well as the chance of having a hike with views over the Portofino headland, and possibly blooming wisteria along the way.

Hiking-wise, the idea is to do the trail that’s described on http://www.portofinotrek.com/trek/gb/from-nozarego/28-nozarego-costa-d-aria-base-0-olmi-gave-nozarego.html . Trail takes around 3:30 hours and features at least 3 lookout points (in Pietre Strette, Felciara and Base 0). Depending on our timing, we might choose to shorten it by heading straight to Crocetta from Ghidelli, should the trail turn out to be too long. Also, instead of hiking back along Gave and Nozarego, we might head down to the Cervara Abbey, and possibly have a glimpse of its secular wisteria.

As for the spring festival, you may read more about it on:
http://www.festadellaprimavera.it/festadellaprimavera/Programma_Prossima_Esizione.html

Return will be from S.Margherita Ligure, this way people coming from afar will be able to benefit from the 2×1 ticket both ways. We’ll probably arrive back to Santa around 5pm. Weather is expected to be partly sunny.

How to get to S.Margherita Ligure, and how to come back alive:

On Sunday, let’s meet at 11:04 am at the entrance of S.Margherita Ligure railway station (by the infamous taxi telephone)

Since it turns out that there’s a strike, suggested trains are:

– if you’re travelling eastwards

IC 35033 (*): 09:47 Genova Piazza Principe (9:56 Genova Brignole) 10:14 S. Margherita Ligure-Portofino

or

[if you’re optimistic about the strike]
Reg 24529: Genova Piazza Principe 10:10 (Genova Brignole 10:20) 11:04 S. Margherita Ligure-Portofino

– if you’re travelling westwards

[this one comes from Parma, so hopefully it won’t be affected by the Ligurian strike]
REG11365 09:50 La Spezia Centrale – 10:45 S. Margherita Ligure-Portofino

– if you’re travelling southwards

IC 35033 (*): 08:10 Milano Centrale – 10:14 S. Margherita Ligure-Portofino
