S.Margherita Ligure

Could this possibly be the weekend of Madonna dei Gotti? For some strange reason, there’s almost no reference on the web, apart from a link on the Camogli Tourism website; even googling for Camogli chestnuts, rustie or caldarroste doesn’t return anything!

Anyway, I would trust what the Camogli tourism website says: shall we hike from S.Margherita to Camogli this Sunday… and find out whether there’s a festival or not?
For those who didn’t know it, the festival celebrates the “Madonna dei Gotti”, a statue which can be found in a little alley of Camogli and is said to watch over the fishermen, who thank her for the protection and, at least in the past, used to gather around her and celebrate with a glass of wine the return from the sea.

Nowadays, the festival features lots of roasted chestnuts, wine and beer. So it’s always worth stopping by!

As for the hike, I propose walking from S.Margherita Ligure to Camogli, via Bocche, Felciara, Molini and Pietre Strette, so as to try a new trail. Hike should take around 3 hours, has 400 mt of vertical gain and is rated as T/E (easy/medium). Depending on our timing, we may choose to go to Camogli via Gaixella (shorter) or via Toca ( panoramic but longer)

You may read more about the bits of hike on:

and about the festival on:

Return will be from Camogli. We’ll probably arrive there around 5pm. Weather is expected to be partly cloudly, partly sunny, with a sea that’s still warm and calm: in other words, it’s not a crime nor an act of madness if you bring your swimming stuff!
