next hike

Saturday, May 28th 2016:

Sestri Levante

Sunday may be a bit rainy, but Saturday seems to promise fine weather again; since it has been a while since we conquered a mountain peak, shall we venture up to the top of Mt Treggin (870 mt), to have a bird’s-eye view of the levante riviera of Liguria? The mountain has an imposing shape, as it looms over the Casarza Ligure hamlet of Bargone, and distinctive colors, thanks to its almost alpine vegetation and richness of minerals. Best of all, it offers impressive views over the Ligurian sea and the mountains of the inland, as well as a prehistoric lake.

This time we’ll try to make the loop a bit shorter than 2 years ago: for going, we’ll see if we can benefit from the bus from Casarza to Bargone, while for walking back we’ll definitely try the Casarza-Bargone trail, moreover as it passes by the old medieval church of S.Giovanni Battista.
The hamlet of Bargone is medieval itself and is famous for its round arches and marble staircases (and, apparently, for the strawberries).

Hike is rated as E (medium), has a vertical gain of 800 mt (or 500 mt, if we manage to use the bus) and should take around 4 hours. We’ll return by catching a bus from Casarza Ligure.

You may read more about the hike on:

How to get to Sestri Levante, and how to come back alive:

On Saturday, May 29th, let’s meet at the entrance of Sestri Levante train station at 10:45, as there are buses leaving for Casarza Ligure at 11:00 and 11:26. Of course, 11:00 should be our first pick, so don’t let the coffee bars in front of the station abduct you!
