next hike

Saturday, May 21st 2016:

Deiva Marina

Two grand openings are featured this weekend, they’re both great news for the hiking group: the Genova-Casella railway will be up and running again (and it was about time, after 3 years!), the seafront promenade of Framura will be complete.

Given that we all love the Framurese nature and hamlets (they recently even made it to the top49 list on ), let’s have a hike in the intricate woods of Mt Serro (i.e. the area between Deiva Marina and Framura) and beta-test the seafront promenade, while leaving the railway for another week. So far, on the previous episodes of the Deiva-Framura hikes we stumbled upon traces of ancient civilization, cork trees, cherry trees, a swamp filled with yellow flowers, a mystery door, a snake falling over the hiking party and mating toads: for sure, the Deiva-Framura area is no boring place and always offers plenty of wonders.

If we’re more than 10 people, let’s head out to the lookout point of Punta Apicchi. Last time we went there was 5 years ago: back then, it was scorching hot and the botanical garden was totally withered. Things should be quite different this time, as the temperature has been unusually low.
In case we’re fewer than 10, we might consider doing the alternative trail from S.Agata to Framura, which is always enchanting, because of the views and the yellow flowers (but can only be done if we fit inside a mini-bus)

Will the sea be warm enough to have a swim? Maybe this time it will, although I’m not sure if the sea temperature will reach 20 degrees!

You may read more about the hike on:

and about the newly opened waterfront on:

Overall, hike takes around 3 hours, has 350 mt of vertical gain and is rated as T/E (easy/medium).

Return will be from Framura railway station, we’ll probably get there around 4-5pm.

How to get to Deiva Marina, and how to come back alive:

On Saturday, May 21st, let’s meet at 10:55 am at the entrance of Deiva Marina railway station

Suggested trains are:

– if you’re travelling eastwards

Reg2181 + Reg23603
09:12 Genova Piazza Principe (09:21 Genova Brignole) 10:49 Deiva Marina

– if you’re travelling westwards

10:10 La Spezia Centrale – 10:55 Deiva Marina
(don’t be fooled by Trenitalia to take a train to Sestri Levante and back to Deiva!)

– if you’re travelling southwards

REG 2181 + Reg23603
07:25 Milano Centrale (07:32 Milano Lambrate 07:38 Milano Rogoredo) 10:49 Deiva Marina

If you come from afar, you might want to take advantage of IC trains to go back (of course, there’s no IC train in Framura, but you might find it from nearby Levanto or Sestri Levante): if you have a travel buddy, you should buy the “2×1″ special ticket before midnight (11:59pm) of Thursday. It’s a buy 1 and get 1 free offer, so you’ll basically pay half price.

As usual, if you have doubts, questions, Hamlet-like dilemmas… feel free to text me! (for example, at +39 329 7203364)

Speaking of telephone, if you love travelling abroad be careful if your phone provider is “Wind”: one sms might cost you up to 2 euro(!!!), if you don’t disable the option that got automatically(!) added to your account 2 days ago (see for more info)
