Saturday, November 1st, 2014:
Is it possible to swim in November? I’m not completely sure… but shall we find out this Saturday? Before returning to hike in the Ligurian inland, let’s have one more hike along the sea.
Since we’ll want to be lured to swim and since it’s the Halloween weekend, I suggest going to the place that in the past tricked and enchanted us the most: Framura. It tricked us, because we got lost several times, while looking for the way to Vigo and S.Agata (in fact, we still don’t know where they are!). And yet, it enchanted us with beautiful buildings and mysterious passageways, which make Framura one of the most magical places in Liguria.
The idea is to hike from coast to Costa (i.e. the 4th of five villages that make up Framura), then reach Castagnola by taking one of 3 possible trails that cross the woods. One takes us to Vigo, a place that was inhabited since prehistoric times, one takes us to Acquafredda (whose name probably well befits the current water temperature), the third takes us all the way up to Mt S.Agata (which allegedly is the most panoramic spot in Framura). All 3 trails are rated as T/E (easy/medium).
We’ll probably do the loop by taking the first 2 trails (unless we get tempted by S.Agata)
Total hiking time is around 3 hours (4 hours with S.Agata), vertical gain is around 400 metres (or 670 if we take the trail to Mt S.Agata).
By 4 or 5pm we’ll likely be back in Framura, where it might be feasible to have a quick swim in the sea, either at Torsei beach or at the lava stone beach of Porto Pidocchio.
Last but not least: please remember that Framura has (almost) no restaurants and no bars, so make sure you bring food with you!
How to get to Framura, and how to come back alive:
On Saturday, November 1st, let’s meet at Framura train station at 11:00 am.
Recommended trains are:
* if you travel eastwards
REG 2181: Genova Piazza Principe 09:13 (Genova Brignole 09:22) Sestri Levante 10:30
REG 24505: Sestri Levante 10:35 Framura 10:51
There’s just 5 minutes for changing train but (if I remember correctly) one train waits for the other one (or maybe it’s even the same train, that only changes number at Sestri Levante)
* if you travel westwards
REG 24488: La Spezia Centrale 10:06 Framura 10:42
* if you travel southwards:
Take regional 2181 from Milano.
Return will be from Framura station, around 6pm.
(*) For those who are catching IC trains:
If you have a travel buddy, you should buy the “2×1″ special ticket before midnight (11:59pm) of Friday. It’s a buy 1 and get 1 free offer, so you’ll basically pay half price. The only catch of the offer: if you buy this special ticket online, Trenitalia requires you to specify names of both passengers. If your travel buddy betrays you, the fine is half the price you paid + 8 euros. Inspectors rarely check for ID, but they may get suspicious, if the ticket says “Alice and Bob” and there are 2 guys or 2 girls.
On the other hand, if you buy the “2×1″ ticket” at a “Fast Ticket” machine at a train station, you won’t need to punch in any names, which makes it easier to find another travel buddy, if your former trip companion betrays you.
